South-metro Republicans Saturday endorsed 2nd District Republican Congressman John Kline for a seventh term.
David Gerson challenged Kline for the endorsement accusing the congressman of failing to uphold conservative principles by voting to raise the debt ceiling and supporting national security initiatives some say infringe on civil liberties.
But Kline prevailed, securing the backing of party activists in the first round of balloting. Kline said he campaigned hard to win the endorsement.
In 2012 Kline handily defeated a primary challenge from Gerson.
This time around Gerson said he's ending campaign and will not run against Kline in the primary.
