Boston Scientific buys Bayer division for $415M

Medical device manufacturer Boston Scientific has struck a $415 million deal to buy the interventional division of Bayer AG.

Based in Coon Rapids, Bayer Interventional is a branch of the German pharmaceutical giant. The local operation, which has about 350 employees, makes devices that remove blood clots from blocked arteries and veins as well as plaque from diseased blood vessels.

The deal is expected to close in the second half of this year. No job cuts are expected.

Boston Scientific already has about 5,000 employees in the Twin Cities, where the company manufactures pacemakers, stents and other medical devices.
