A judge Friday set bail at $2 million for Lyle "Ty" Hoffman, the man charged in the slaying of a Boston Scientific executive.

Hoffman is charged with second-degree murder in the death of his former partner Kelly Phillips at a north Twin Cities metro gas station on Aug. 11. He was arrested Thursday after a monthlong search.

Hoffman made his first court appearance this afternoon.

Additional charges are possible as the investigation proceeds, Ramsey County Attorney John Choi said.

If the facts point to premeditation, Hoffman could face a first degree murder charge, Choi added.

Hoffman is also a suspect in an August bank robbery in Blaine.
