Drivers in the Twin Cities will have to contend with some major road closings this weekend.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation is closing southbound Interstate 35W in northeast Minneapolis. The freeway will close from Minnesota Highway 280 in Roseville to 4th Street SE starting at 10 p.m. The detour uses southbound Highway 280 and westbound Interstate 94.
Crews are repairing the de-icing system on a bridge at Johnson Street and doing other maintenance. The closing also affects westbound Minnesota Highway 36 as it merges with 35W, although the entrance to northbound 35W will remain open. The road will be closed through Monday morning.
Drivers will also have to avoid the Twin Cities Marathon route running through downtown Minneapolis, the city's lakes district, the Mississippi River parkways and Summit Avenue in St. Paul. Major road closings start at 5 a.m. on Sunday.
