Road construction woes in the Twin Cities are going to take a turn for the worse again this weekend.
Part of Interstate 94 in St. Paul is closing again. At 10 p.m., the eastbound lanes of the metropolitan area's main east-west freeway will close from Minnesota Highway 280 to Interstate 35E. Crews are pouring the southern half of the new Snelling Avenue bridge over the I-94.
Access to I-94 will also be closed from southbound Highway 280 and Cretin Avenue. The freeway entrances from Lexington Parkway and Dale and Marion streets to eastbound I-94 will be open during the concrete work on the Snelling bridge.
The freeway could be closed until Monday, although last weekend's work on the north side of the Snelling bridge was finished more than a day ahead of schedule.
Also this weekend, the eastbound lanes of Interstate 394 from Golden Valley to downtown Minneapolis will be closed. Traffic will be shifted to the reversible HOV lanes through mid-August. Ramps to and from Penn Avenue will be closed, and the ramp from northbound Highway 100 to eastbound I-394 will be closed.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation is resurfacing the eastbound lanes of I-394, completing the work started on the westbound lanes earlier this summer.
