A West St. Paul teen allegedly trying to rob people in St. Paul late Friday night was shot and killed by one of his victims, police said Monday.
Investigators said four juvenile suspects attempted to rob two adults near Summit Avenue and Mississippi River Boulevard around 10:30 p.m. Friday. According to police, one of the juvenile suspects was wearing a mask and gloves, and approached the victims while showing a handgun.
One of the victims of the robbery also took out a gun and shot the suspect. Police said the person who fired the shot holds a valid permit to carry the weapon, immediately called police and rendered first aid while the three other suspects fled.
Emergency crews responding to the scene and pronounced the suspect dead. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner identified him as Lavauntai Broadbent, 16, of West St. Paul.
St. Paul police did not identify the robbery victims but said they are cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
The other three suspects have been arrested, the department added.
