One of the country's largest egg producers, Minnesota-based Michael Foods, has joined the growing list of companies moving toward cage-free eggs.

In a statement Wednesday, Michael Foods' president and CEO, Jim Dwyer, says "cage-free is emerging as the likely future of the egg industry." He says customers are increasingly requesting cage-free eggs and egg products. Other large food companies have announced similar steps. Minnesota-based General Mills said in late November that it has set a deadline of 2025.
