Social scientist Michael Norton researches how money can buy happiness — when you don't spend it on yourself.
Norton explores why people think money buys happiness, and why it doesn't buy as much happiness as they think it will.
He is an associate professor of business administration at the Harvard Business School and the co-author of "Happy Money: The Science of Smarter Spending."
Norton presented at the Chautauqua Institution in New York on July 22, 2015.
