The NFL said it expects the Carolina Panthers and Minnesota Vikings to play Sunday in Charlotte.

North Carolina officials and the team said earlier in the day they were discussing security issues for the game after Charlotte was rocked by two nights of tense street protests over the police shooting of a black man.

"We are planning to play the game as scheduled on Sunday," an NFL spokesperson said in a statement. "We are monitoring events in Charlotte and have been in communication with local officials and authorities" as well as the teams, he added.
