U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar says she'd like to see an independent body investigate possible links between President Trump and the Russian government.

Klobuchar says the group should model the 9/11 commission, which was made up of experts, not elected officials. The independent commission would supplement a Senate intelligence committee probe, which Klobuchar says should be thorough.

"They're going to be able to get people to come forward — agents and other things in a different way," she said. "But the independent commission would be helpful to really make it public so we can inform other democracies and then save our own."

Klobuchar says she's hopeful some of her Republican Senate colleagues will also support the independent commission. Many Republicans have said congressional committees are sufficient.
