A finalist for the St. Paul schools superintendent opening withdrew from consideration on Tuesday following reports that he filed for bankruptcy in 2009.

Orlando Ramos gave notice he was out of the running through the district's search firm.

Ramos, a regional superintendent in Milwaukee Public Schools, said in an email that he didn't want the bankruptcy filing to be a distraction. The Star Tribune reported the bankruptcy shortly before Ramos withdrew.

The two remaining finalists are current Burnsville-Eagan-Savage superintendent Joe Gothard and Philadelphia schools Chief Academic Support Officer Cheryl Logan.

The permanent St. Paul post has been open since the board fired Valeria Silva last June. Finalists have a community meeting and board interviews scheduled for this week.
