In the Minnesota Senate, a committee takes up a set of gun restrictions Friday, after a House public safety committee took up a proposal Thursday to set tougher penalties for straw purchasing. Other new legislation at the Capitol would prohibit banning books in public and school libraries based on content or ideological objections.
