Meet Dan Kraker
Dan Kraker is an MPR News reporter based in Duluth where he covers the people, economy and environment of northeast Minnesota.
Before joining MPR News, Dan worked at KNAU Arizona Public Radio for 11 years, first as a reporter covering northern Arizona's Native nations and then as news director. He also contributes regularly to National Public Radio programs and Marketplace.
Dan has won several major awards over his career, including two National Edward R. Murrow Awards for coverage of Native American issues in the southwest, an American Association for the Advancement of Science Kavli Science Journalism award for his coverage of climate change in Minnesota, and Best in Show at the National Headliner Awards for his profile of "wild ice" skaters in northern Minnesota.
Dan is a graduate of Miami University in Ohio with a degree in English and political science. He lives in Duluth with his wife and three daughters (and a black lab named Oscar). He's constantly on the lookout for good stories and intriguing characters in northeast Minnesota, and he's always up for a paddle, pedal, tromp or ski.
