Hurricane Katrina hit land on Aug. 29, 2005. The storm caused almost $100 billion in damage and left a 125-mile-long path of destruction that stretched from Alabama to Louisiana.

The images of Katrina's wrath are shocking. But, in some ways, it's the numbers that really express the magnitude of the devastation.
