Cows may begin eating mustard to fill up

Increasing demand for ethanol has raised the demand for corn in the U.S. That means corn, and other grains are fetching higher prices. That is good news for crop farmers, but it means headaches for livestock and dairy farmers, who use corn, soybeans and other grains to feed their herds.

Today, a University of Minnesota researcher announced what he calls a cost-effective feed substitute for dairy farmers. Harouna Maiga is an agriculture professor at the University of Minnesota-Crookston. All Things Considered host Tom Crann spoke with Maiga about the possibilities of mustard bran.
