Traffic will be light today - but heavy at weekend

A study by AAA says about 41 million Americans are travelling at least 50 miles for the fourth of July holiday, and about 38 percent of that group intends to take the whole week off for vacation.

As a result, Gail Weinholzer of Triple A of Minnesota and Iowa says traffic will be light the rest of this week. But she says there's a downside.

"That means Sunday, the roads are going to be full," she says. "The folks that decided to take the week indicated that they were gonna take the full week and they were leaving last Friday and not returning until Sunday."

Weinholzer says motorists should avoid roads like Interstate 35W, which has had frequent lane closings due to repairs.

Weinholzer says, overall, holiday travel has not decreased much despite high gas prices.
