Governor Tim Pawlenty and New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson are forming a coalition to promote the use of wind energy. They have announced the Governors Windpower Coalition and invited other governors to join the group.
Governors Pawlenty and Richardson say the coalition will increase collaboration among states, exchange wind power information and sponsor wind research. The coalition is similar to one formed on ethanol. Pawlenty and Richardson say it will not receive money from industry sources.
The American Wind Energy Association predicts 25 to 30 percent growth in wind power capacity this year and next year.
