Jesse Jackson, Jr., the son of civil rights activist Jesse Jackson, Sr., has represented the Chicago area since a special election in 1995 and is a national co-chairman of Obama's presidential campaign. Jackson spoke to delegates of the Democratic National Convention on the opening night of the convention.

In 2004, Jackson was an early supporter of Sen. John Kerry for his party's presidential nomination.

Rep. Jackson used his speech to talk about Barack Obama's life story.
