America's first major memorial to the Sept. 11 terror attacks opens at the Pentagon on Thursday. The memorial features 184 benches over small pools of water, and it lies along the same path that the hijacked airliner flew before slamming into the Pentagon. The attacks took place seven years ago, and since then, there's been plenty of debate about how to memorialize the attacks.
MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with Judith Dupre is the author of "Monuments," and has written extensively about memorials.
