It's a rare bright spot in a troubled economy.

Car repair shops throughout the Twin Cities say they're seeing their business go up, while the automobile industry struggles.

Dan Burns owns Lloyd's Automotive in St. Paul. He says he's been working on cars with odometers that read well into the tens of thousands of miles, day in and day out, for the last several months. He says you can do a lot of repairs for the equivalent of a couple months' payments on a new car.

Burns and nearby shop owner Ron Alcorn, who owns Parkway Auto Care, say they've seen a 10 percent increase in business as a result of the lagging economy. And they're not alone.

KARE-TV called more than a dozen auto repair shops, from Osseo to Eagan to St. Francis. All but one of them said their business has gone up in the last several months.
