Lawyers for Democrat Al Franken have asked the state Supreme Court to speed up Republican Norm Coleman's appeal.
Franken's legal team filed court documents Tuesday that say the overriding public interest in Minnesota having two senators requires that justices put Coleman's appeal on a fast track.
Franken's lawyers say the state stands alone with only a single senator to represent its citizens. They want the case to be ready for oral arguments the first week in May.
Coleman's attorneys on Monday appealed a three-judge panel's ruling that Franken received more legal votes in last November's election.
A Coleman spokesman says Coleman's lawyers will "be happy to do whatever the court says and meet any deadline they set."
