Union officials say another 250 workers at U.S. Steel's Minntac plant in Mountain Iron are expected to lose their jobs, possibly as early as this week.
Steelworkers union officials say they got the news from the company Friday.
Mike Woods, Steelworkers Local 1938 president, says the company cited a lack of demand for taconite pellets. He says it's also partially due to reduced capacity at U.S. Steel's Gary Works.
He says they hope to learn specifics Tuesday.

The company said in February it would lay off 590 Minntac employees, nearly half the work force. About 380 people have lost their jobs since March. Another 250 would raise the total to more than 600.
U.S. Steel spokeswoman Courtney Boone declined to comment on specific numbers.
