Microsoft development team moving to St. Paul

Another technology-related company has decided to move its headquarters to Minnesota's capital city.

Microsoft has selected downtown St. Paul to be the site of is Expression Product Development Team, which produces software for creative professionals.

The team has about 30 employees currently working out of a temporary office in Minneapolis, according to the project's General Manager Doug Olson. Another 70 Expression team members work at Microsoft headquarters in Redmond, Wash.

The Minneapolis group will move into an office in the Wells Fargo Place in St. Paul in August, Olson said.

"We've been working for an awfully long time to try to get ourselves a permanent space," Olson said. "We're very excited about it."

Olson said while the St. Paul office will not create new positions this year, it is projected to grow to as many as 60 employees in the next few years.

Microsoft's Expression team is the second technology-related company to recently consider its new headquarters in downtown St. Paul.

In May, Cray Inc. announced its intention to move from the suburbs to Galtier Plaza. Other technology-related companies in downtown St. Paul include Lawson Software, GovDelivery and Visi.
