A team from the University of Minnesota won first place in the 2009 Formula Sun Grand Prix, held over the weekend on a race track in Cresson, Texas.
The team, made up of engineering students from the U's Institute of Technology, drove the solar powered car 487 laps, almost 828 miles.
There were eleven teams involved in the three day race. The U of M drove 94 more laps than the second place team from the University of Kentucky.
The race was last held in 2005, when a team from the U of M also won.
Solar Vehicle Project team members say they'll work over the next year to build another solar car. It will be the ninth in the team's 19-year history.
