Minnesota TV stations complete their switch to digital-only broadcasts Friday.

About one-third of the TV stations went digital-only in previous months. A few are switching the day of the federal deadline. Twin Cities Public Television made the switch at 9 a.m., and the Mankato TV station was expected to go digital-only a bit after noon today.

Jim du Bois of the Minnesota Broadcasters Association said most stations will cease analog broadcasts and go digital-only just before midnight tonight.

"TPT opted to go a little bit early," du Bois said. "Some of the stations are going at different times. But the majority throughout the country will go at 11:59 tonight."

Du Bois said viewers relying on over-the-air signals should adjust their TV tuners or converter boxes Saturday.

"Make sure you rescan when you try to watch television after midnight tonight," he said. "Grab your remote. Usually it says auto tune or channel scan, and just push that button and the converter box or TV tuner will do it for you."

It's estimated 97 percent of greater Twin Cities households have at least one TV ready for the transition to digital-only broadcasts. For more information, go to DTV.gov.
