Minneapolis bells to toll for Michael Jackson

A tribute will take place this morning in downtown Minneapolis in honor of idolized superstar Michael Jackson, who was pronounced dead Thursday afternoon at the U.C.L.A. Medical Center.

The landmark bells of Minneapolis City Hall and Hennepin County Courthouse will ring for 20 minutes in honor of the "King of Pop."

From 11:30 to 11:50 a.m., a volunteer chime player will play a series of songs written or popularized by Jackson, including "We Are the World," "Ben," and "You are Not Alone."

The concert is part of the regular Friday midday series of popular music on the bells. The second part of the concert, from 1 to 1:30 p.m., will consist of other popular music unrelated to Jackson.

The bells can be heard over a large area of downtown Minneapolis, but some of the best listening spots include the plazas of Hennepin County Government Center and the U.S. Courthouse and the park opposite the Star Tribune.

The concert is free and open to the public.
