Duluth police describe a chaotic scene where one man was killed and another was wounded by gunfire late Sunday night at a residence near Duluth's downtown.

Curtis Michael Cooney, 22, died of a gunshot wound to the head. Ephriam Darell Burks, 21, was treated for a gunshot wound to the leg.

Deputy Chief John Beyer said the shooting may have stemmed from an earlier incident at the same residence over a loose dog. But he said police haven't determined what set off the shooting.

"It's really too early to tell, and of course in situations like this that are very dynamic, with a lot of things happening and shot's being fired," Beyer said. "The scene was very chaotic, so it's going to take us some time to sort through all of that, to take statements; re-interview people; to try to get a clear picture of exactly what happened."

Police said the scene was littered with shell casings and that they used Tasers to subdue several people. Police describe the shooters only as three black males, and ask for the public's help with more information.
