The Hennepin County Sheriff will explain why he removed a captain from the leadership role on an anti-gang unit replacing a scandal-ridden team.
Capt. Chris Omodt was originally tabbed to head a unit replacing the Metro Gang Strike Force. Omodt took over the original strike force in January, a team that an audit later accused of mishandling seized cash and cars.
Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek has decided to pull Omodt from the team. Stanek says he will discuss that decision at a news conference this morning.
He emphasizes that Omodt was not a member of the original strike force when the mismanagement took place.
Omodt will return to duties at the sheriff's office.
No other officers from the old unit will be on the interim team.
