More than $1 million in federal stimulus money will bring a Minneapolis bike trail to the plaza outside the new Minnesota Twins ballpark.
A project coordinator with Hennepin County says spending $1.2 million of stimulus money on the trail doesn't break rules against using federal recovery dollars for sports stadiums.
Chuck Ballentine, deputy coordinator of the county's ballpark project office, says building a spur off the Cedar Lake Trail will employ 8 to 10 construction workers later this year. Cyclists will get a direct route to light-rail and commuter train stops next to Target Field.
The Metropolitan Council approved the request from Hennepin County and the Minnesota Ballpark Authority last month.
