Portions of the light rail line to the Mall of America and the Twin Cities airport will be closed for upgrades and maintenance this weekend.
The closures begin at 11 p.m. tonight between the 46th St. Station and Mall of America Station, and will last through 3:30 a.m. Monday.
Train service is expected to resume between 46th St. Station and Humphrey Terminal Station on Sunday.
During the closure, Metro Transit buses will operate more frequently, but officials are encouraging riders to plan for longer commutes.
The closure is part of Metro Transit's yearlong construction project to lengthen the platforms at 10 of the line's 17 stations to accommodate three-car trains.
Crews are also performing maintenance on the edges of the existing platforms, and replacing the yellow warning line with new yellow pavers.
