A top Minnesota teachers union official heads to Washington on Friday for an event with President Barack Obama.
Mary Cathryn Ricker heads the St. Paul Federation of Teachers and serves on Education Minnesota's governing board.
The American Federation of Teachers says Ricker is one of about 125 teachers who will attend the event focused on competitive grants for education improvements.
Obama and Education Secretary Arne Duncan will headline the meeting to talk about the grants, which are backed by the $5 billion "Race to the Top" fund.
