An iron mining official says U.S. Steel's Minntac plant in Mountain Iron should have four of five production lines up and running next month.
The plant has been running one taconite line since June.
But Iron Mining Association Craig Pagel says Minntac intends to bring another line up in a week to 10 days, and then put another two lines in production in September. That would put the mine at the same production level as September 2008.
Last February, U.S. Steel announced the layoff of 590 workers at Minntac, about half of its work force at that time. In mid-June, 321 workers were recalled when a line was restarted.
