Puppy taken to Twin Cities with gunshot wounds

An 8-week-old puppy has arrived in the Twin Cities after being found with gunshot wounds in eastern South Dakota.

The female golden retriever mix was wearing no identification when police found her on Sisseton-Wahpeton tribal property.

A Good Samaritan in Wheaton, in western Minnesota, rescued the dog and turned her over to Retrieve a Golden of Minnesota, a golden retriever rescue organization in Twin Cities.

The puppy, named Carly, has three small holes in her forehead that appear to have been caused by buckshot or a BB gun, but she is expected to survive.

The dog's face is swollen and one of the bullet fragments may have pierced her nasal cavity.
