Motorists should expect delays on a portion of Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis over the weekend.
Southbound Hennepin Avenue from Douglas Avenue to Franklin Avenue will be closed for resurfacing from 6 a.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. The I-94 exit ramp to southbound Hennepin Avenue will also be closed.
The resurfacing will be a "mill and overlay" process, which involves removing the top layer of the existing pavement and replacing it with a new driving surface. City officials say the repairs will extend the live of the roadway by about ten years.
Southbound traffic on Hennepin Avenue will be detoured to Lyndale Avenue. Motorists planning to exit I-94 at Hennepin Avenue will need to use the southbound Lyndale Avenue exit instead.
Northbound traffic will not be affected during construction.
The resurfacing project is part of a five-year, $25 million Infrastructure Acceleration Program designed to catch-up on deferred maintenance of heavily traveled city streets.
