About 100 people attended a Social Security seminar designed for women and hosted by Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann's office.
Bachmann -- who spoke briefly to the crowd -- said women approach her all the time with questions on how Social Security works, particularly after a divorce or the death of a spouse.
An expert from a regional Social Security office answered questions about benefits. One St. Cloud woman, who didn't want to give her name, said her husband died six months ago.
"It's amazing how complex everything is and can be," she said. "And you're kind of always under the impression that when a spouse dies, you get the higher of the two. That is not true. You get your own and a percentage of his."
Some others who attended the meeting said they are frustrated Bachmann hasn't had a health care forum in St. Cloud yet.
That won't take place until next month.
