A state senator will host a public meeting today in response to concerns about a transmission line project coming to southeastern Minnesota. Sen. Sharon Erickson Ropes, a Winona Democrat, will host the meeting in Houston on the CapX2020 project. One of the project's three approved transmission lines will go through southeastern Minnesota.
The utility companies behind the project, including Xcel Energy, say the lines will improve both power reliability and access to generation.
But the Citizens Energy Task Force and other groups have opposed the project, citing environmental concerns and questioning the need for the lines.
Thursday's meeting takes place at 6 p.m. at the American Legion in Houston.
