The St. Paul Police Historical Society is opening a new exhibit Tuesday dedicated to youngsters who have served as school safety patrols.
Officials say that 88 years ago, St. Paul started the first school patrol program in the country. The intersection at Kellogg and Summit was the site of the first crossing on Feb. 17, 1921.
Police Chief John Harrington says a group of historians have been working for the last several months on the display.
It's in the public lobby of the St. Paul Police headquarters. It includes four mannequins depicting a local principal who got the program started, the first Superintendent of St. Paul School Police, and two children - one serving as a school patrol officer.
The display will be unveiled at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
