The Mayo Clinic is hosting a symposium in Rochester this week to discuss innovations in health care
Organizer David Rosenman says the symposium offers an inter-disciplinary discussion between doctors, engineers, biologists and artists.
"The problems may seem to be, on the face of it, quite different, but in fact there are solutions that are happening within each of those areas that are the blending of disciplines," he said.
The discussions will include how healthcare providers can redefine their roles and how to use Web-based tools to help patients.
"It is tremendously inspiring to listen to new ideas and to have conversations with people who come from such different backgrounds, and to try to design solutions that we never even thought of last week or last year," he said.
The event is sold out, but the public can follow the discussion on the Center's blog or on Twitter. More than 400 professionals from a variety of fields are expected to attend.
The symposium is sponsored by the Clinic's Center for Innovation.
