Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack speaking at U of M

Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack, will present a lecture at the University of Minnesota's Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs and College of Continuing Education, Monday, Oct. 5.

The topics to be covered include food aid and international development, expanding the food stamp program due to an increase in layoffs, food security, obesity and nutrition, and farm and foreign trade policy.

The presentation will begin with a lecture from Vilsack, titled "Feeding the World: At Home and Abroad," followed by a conversation with Dean Allen Levine of the College of Food and Natural Resources and J. Brian Atwood of the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs.

The Freeman Lecture series honors the lifetime achievements of Orville Lothrop Freeman who was the 29th governor of Minnesota and also the Secretary of Agriculture in the Kennedy and Johnson administrations.

The free event is open to the public and will be held at Ted Mann Concert Hall, 2128 4th St. S; at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at Northrop ticket office on campus.
