A judge in Minnesota has sentenced three men for exporting high-tech carbon-fiber to the China Academy of Space Technology in violation of U.S. export laws.
U.S. District Judge Michael Davis sentenced Jian Wei Ding, 51, of Singapore, to three years and 10 months in prison. Kok Tong Lim, 37, of Singapore, was sentenced to just over one year of confinement because of his cooperation. Ping Cheng, 46, of Manhasset, N.Y., drew one year of probation because also cooperated.
The three men each pleaded guilty earlier this year to one count of conspiracy to violate export regulations. Prosecutors say the conspirators unknowingly worked with an undercover Minnesota company that purported to be a supplier of aerospace materials.
