An 18-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death last week of another young man outside a Burger King in north Minneapolis.
Minneapolis police say Denell Ray Malone Jr. is in the Hennepin County jail with bail set at $1.5 million.
According to the criminal complaint, Malone displayed a handgun during a physical fight outside the Burger King. He then ran behind a nearby business, pulled his shirt up over his face and ran toward 18-year-old Haywood J. Eaton while firing the gun several times, the complaint said.
Eaton, who had been a passenger in an SUV at the Burger King drive-thru, was dead at the scene. Also, a juvenile received a non-life threatening gunshot wound. Malone is charged with second-degree attempted murder for allegedly injuring that person.
