The 10,000 Lakes Festival, which ran for the last seven summers near Detroit Lakes, Minn., is going on hiatus in 2010.
Promoter Rand Levy says the 10,000 Lakes Festival was artistically successful, and that people passionately love the show. Last summer's event featured dozens of acts including the Dave Matthews Band, Wilco, Widespread Panic, and Atmosphere.
Levy said the costs involved were so large the event can't pay for itself, and that only two of the seven festivals broke even. He says in its current iteration the festival just wasn't able to grow in the way it needed at the site near Detroit Lakes.
Levy says he wants to take a year off and rethink, and the event may come back in another form in future years.
