Two teachers from Minnesota are taking part in a White House ceremony Wednesday, where President Obama is recognizing them for their work teaching math and science.
A total of 87 teachers from around the country are being honored at the ceremony. They are this year's winners of a presidential award that honors their work in math and science.
The two Minnesota teachers are Kari Dombrovski and Barbara Stoflet, who have both taught for more than 20 years.
Dombrovski is a second grade teacher at Talahi Elementary in St. Cloud. Stoflet teaches sixth grade at Gatewood Elementary, in the Hopkins school district. Stoflet is also a former Minnesota Teacher of the Year.
Along with the White House ceremony, winners receive a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation.
The program, created by Congress in the 1980s, is the highest recognition in the country for math and science teachers in elementary and secondary schools.
