Cities in west-central Minnesota are preparing for possible spring flooding.
Officials in Montevideo meet Thursday to discuss preparations, while Granite Falls officials meet Feb. 24th.
But there is no sense of alarm. Steps taken since floods in 1997 have reduced the cities' exposure to flood damage.
Dawson on the Lac qui Parle River was among the hardest-hit communities in the flood of 1997. Dawson City Administrator Dave Bovee tells the West Central Tribune of Willmar the worries are not as great as they were 13 years ago.
Bovee estimates that 90 percent of the properties hit by waters in 1997 have either been removed or are now better protected by an improved levee system. ---
