The first bills of the 2010 session are now law, even if they're not likely to make headlines.
The first bill deals with technical election changes, including a provision clarifying when stepchildren and siblings related only by their parents' marriage can serve as election judges in the same precinct. Like other relatives, they won't be allowed to work the same hours.
The second bill allows Anoka County to use a process called design-build to rebuild the intersection of U.S. Highway 10 and County Road 83. The process allows the project to be designed as construction moves ahead, saving time.
Gov. Tim Pawlenty signed both bills on Thursday.
