Peace and anti-war groups in the Twin Cities are protesting the escalating war in Afghanistan and the recent U.S. attack on the city of Marjah.
The protest will be at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in front of Sen. Amy Klobuchar's Washington Avenue office in Minneapolis.
Organizers say the attack on Marjah represents a new and potentially bloody escalation of the war in Afghanistan.
Marjah is the hub of the Taliban's southern logistics and drug-smuggling network. Afghan and U.S. troops say Taliban fighters there are increasingly using civilians as human shields.
The attack started Saturday. As of Wednesday evening, about 40 insurgents have been killed. Six NATO service members and one Afghan soldier also died.
It's the biggest offensive since the 2001 U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan.
