The leader of the University of Minnesota's academic health sciences departments is retiring at the end of the year.
University President Robert Bruininks announced the retirement of Dr. Frank Cerra in letter to university employees earlier this week.
Cerra is dean of the university's medical school and the senior vice president for health sciences. The 67-year-old will stay on the job until Dec. 31.
Bruininks praised Cerra's contributions to the university and wished him well in the future. He also announced plans to hire a consultant to help find a replacement.
That consultant will gather information from key groups inside and outside the campus with an interest in the university's health care research and training.
Bruininks says he expects the consultant to finish by early April.
