A former Minneapolis SWAT team member has admitted he robbed an Apple Valley bank at gunpoint.
Twenty-eight-year-old Timothy Edward Carson pleaded guilty Friday in U.S. District Court in St. Paul to one count of armed bank robbery and one firearms count in the Jan. 6 robbery of the Wells Fargo bank.
He'll face a mandatory minimum of seven years in prison on the firearms charge. Under the plea agreement, prosecutors are recommending between 30 and 37 months on the bank robbery charge.
Those two sentences would be served consecutively. The final decision is up to a federal judge. A sentencing date has not been set.
Carson's family says they support his decision to take responsibility for his actions.
Carson also faces state charges in 10 other armed robberies and two robbery attempts in Hennepin and Dakota counties.
