The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is temporarily closing trails in several state forests to off-highway vehicle travel because of wet and sloppy conditions.
The agency says the early spring break-up and unseasonably warm weather have left trails in the Pine Island, Smokey Bear, Koochiching, and Kabetogama state forests unusable to most vehicles over 1,500 pounds.
Vehicles weighing less than that should still be able to use the roads, but users should check with the DNR Web for more information. Current information can be found at www.mndnr.gov or by calling the agency's information center at 651-296-6157.
A DNR forester says the roads and trails will be checked often and re-opened as quickly as possible.
