The city of Duluth has been pouring sand on local streets all winter, and now the city is telling its residents to bring it back.
The Duluth News Tribune reports Thursday that the city is asking residents to sweep their driveways, curbsides and sidewalks to stop the sand from running into the storm sewers.
Residents are asked to use the sand to fill low spots in their yards, throw it out in their garbage can or bring it to one of eight collection sites.
City sweeper crews have spent weeks trying to pick up as much road sand as possible. It's especially important to get the job done before heavy spring rains come.

The city says that once the sand gets into the storm sewer system it can clog streams and carry pollution into Lake Superior.
